Last night, I looked around as we stood under the Eiffel Tower and felt a sense of complete joy rush over my body. As the lights flash to green and white, our MSU Sports Journalism squad breaks out into a chant. GO GREEN. GO WHITE. The hundreds of people around us were quick to stare, but we were so content in the moment that nothing could break our spirit.
Each one of us comes from a different background, a different upbringing and is headed down a different path in this life, but, after two weeks together, we've somehow molded into a family.
You always hear people talking about how their study abroad experiences changed their lives and gave them a group of friends they otherwise wouldn't have known, yet to me it all seemed way too cliche. How could one trip with dozens of people you don't know affect you that much? Sure, maybe you'd meet a friend or two, but completely uproot the world you had left behind in the U.S.? I didn't think that was remotely possible. I was wrong.
I'm so thankful to be experiencing this adventure with people who I have grown so close to so quickly. This trip has taught me the importance in confiding in people and the possibilities that people can bring to your life.
I will have one month at home after this trip before moving across the country to begin my next chapter. Knowing how quickly relationships can form and strangers can become your closest friends, I'm ready for the adventure. People will always matter more than anything else, so when you open your eyes to how people can enrich your life, you will never be alone. The more the merrier, the bigger the family.
